I heard a Fly buzz - when I died - (Я почула, як дзижчить муха, коли я вмирала --)

The Stillness in the Room (Недвижно в кімнаті)

Was like the Stillness in the Air - (Було як спокій в повітрі)

Between the Heaves of Storm - (Між поривами бурі; heave = підйом, позив)

The Eyes around - had wrung them dry -- (Очі навколо висохли насухо; to wring, wrung wrung = жати, вичавлювати)

And Breaths were gathering firm (І дихання готувало сили = букв. "Збиралося міцно "))

For that last Onset - when the King (Для того останнього натиску, коли Король)

Be witnessed - in the Room - (Був би засвідчений = з'явиться в кімнаті.)

I willed my Keepsakes - Signed away (Я заповіла свої альбоми, відписала; keepsake = кіпсейк, дамський альбом)

What portion of me be (Яка частина мене повинна бути)

Assignable - and then it was (Передано - і тоді-то; to assign = доручає)

There interposed a Fly - (Втрутилася муха)

With Blue - uncertain stumbling Buzz -- (Своїм блакитним = сумним, невизначеним, спотикаються дзижчанням)

Between the light - and me - (Між світлом і мною)

And then the Windows failed - and then (А потім вікна здали - а потім; to fail - здавати, терпіти крах)

I could not see to see - (Я не могла бачити, щоб бачити = зрозуміти).

I heard a Fly buzz - when I died -

The Stillness in the Room
